Summer 2016 – Burnaby English Language Academy
Academic English Preparation – (Ages 13-18)

Program Overview

Burnaby’s Summer English Language Academy provides international students with intensive English language training for sessions of between two and five weeks in length in July and August. These sessions are specially designed for:

  • students interested in a summer experience in Canada with an academic focus
  • students planning on enrolling in a Canadian high school program in September 2016

Led by certified teachers, Burnaby’s Academy will:

  • improve students’ listening, speaking, reading and academic writing skills
  • involve Canadian students who act as peer helpers every afternoon
  • introduce students to Canadian study methods and culture
  • review English terminology used in Socials Studies and the Sciences
  • include a full-day excursion each Wednesday and an afternoon excursion each Friday to destinations, such as Granville Island, Science World, Vancouver Public Library, University of British Columbia Museum of Anthropology,  Canada Place, Stanley Park, SFU and Lynn Valley Canyon.

An optional Saturday excursion program includes outings to:

  • Grouse Mountain, Whistler, Victoria, Planet Lazer and Extreme Air Park.

The program is for beginners to advanced level English speakers. Students are assessed upon arrival and placed in the appropriate level.

Locations: Burnaby Mountain Hours: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm Monday to Friday (optional Saturday excursions)

Sessions: July 11 – August 12, 2016. Students can choose how many weeks they wish to enroll (2, 3, 4 or 5 weeks). Minimum stay 2 weeks.

Application Procedure

Step 1)

Please download and complete our application form. Send it to our office by fax or email. Fax: 1-604-296-6914 or e-mail international@sd41.bc.ca. There is a non-refundable application fee of $100.

The registration deadline is: June 12, 2016

Step 2)

Please pay the total fees owing on the invoice. Payment instruction and bank information are indicated on the invoice.

Step 3)

When we receive the payment in full, we will issue an official receipt letter confirming your enrolment in the program. The letter will also include instructions in regard to the homestay placement process, airport arrival, and the first day of school. The letter will be emailed to you as well as mailed.
