Located in the center of Metro Vancouver Regional District (also referred to as Great Vancouver), the Burnaby School District offers the exciting opportunity for students from overseas to study in one of its 8 secondary or 41 elementary schools while experiencing a beautiful part of the world.

International students can begin their studies in:

  • September,
  • January (elementary), or
  • February (secondary).

Students can enrol for a summer, a semester, a school year, or more.

Enrollment

Burnaby is the 4th largest school district in BC. As of September 30, 2011, Burnaby School District has

  • a K-12 student population of 23,716 full-time equivalents (FTE) students.
    • 13,059 students in 41 elementary schools
    • 10,657 students in 8 secondary schools and alternative secondary programs

The District continues to promote the ideals of multiculturalism through its established policies and numerous school-based initiatives which promote cultural respect and understanding.

The Burnaby School District’s International Office facilitates the enrollment and integration of international students within Burnaby schools.

Our History

The Burnaby School District first opened its doors in 1906, with only 60 students and a few teachers. Since its beginnings, Burnaby administrators, teachers and staff shared a common goal—to provide the highest standard of education to the community.

Today, Burnaby is recognized as a leader in education in Canada. Burnaby’s standing was recently reflected in a review by the Ministry of Education, which stated:
